The autonomous monetary production of the mint of Alexandria of Egypt stops during the year 12 of Diocletian (295-296 AD). The emperor’s disputed centralist monetary reform came into full force only 2 years later, in 298 AD, following the repression of Domitian’s revolt. Magnificent physiognomic portrait of Diocletian on the obverse of this rare tetradrachm and a pretty image of Isis on the reverse.
