Egypt. Alexandria. Maximianus Herculius, first reign, 286-305. Potin Tetradrachm (Billon, 19.33 mm, 7.22 g). Dated RY 8 (= 292/3). ΜΑΞΙΜΙΑΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. Rev. ΕΤΟΥϹ Η within laurel wreath; B (date) below. Dattari-Savio 5999. Emmett 4161. Geissen 3330. Dark brown patina. Good Very Fine. Very Rare. Ex Gilles Blancon price list 31, August 1999. As the previous one, this excellent and very rare tetradrachm of large size and excellent preservation belongs to the same year of Maximian's reign. As in other numerals of the last years of the Alexandrian coinage, our specimen shows on the reverse, besides the date, also the issuing workshop through a progressive letter of the Greek alphabet, engraved at the lower end of the flan: in our case the letter B tells us that is the second workshop.
