Selene (Moon) in Cancer (night house); draped bust of Selene right, star of eight rays before, crescent moon below, crab beneath all; L - H (date) across upper field. Geissen 1494. On the reverse of this drachm appears the sign of Cancer on which Selene's bust rests. Some authors maintain with conviction that the zodiac series of the year 8 of the reign of Antoninus Pius (144-145 AD) was issued as an auspicious celebration of the wedding in that year, of Caesar Marcus Aurelius, with Faustina II, daughter of the emperor.
