Egypt. Alexandria. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Drachm (Bronze, 33.37 mm, 24.15 g). Zodiac series. Dated RY 8 (= 144/5). [ΑΥΤ Κ Τ ΑΙΛ ΑΔΡ] ΑΝ[ΤωΝΕΙΝΟϹ ϹΕΒ ΕΥϹ] Laureate head right. Rev. Smooth brown patina. Good Fine/Near Very Fine. Very Rare. Ex Rakotis Collection (1960-70). Ex Leu numismatik AG 13, 15-16 August 2020, lot 1052. Another relevant example of the zodiac series issued in the eighth year of Antoninus Pius with Helios bust combined with the sign of the right rampant lion, as well as the imperial portrait on obverse, immersed in an original homogeneous chocolate brown color patina. It should be noted that the juxtaposition of the twelve signs of the zodiac was carried out astrologically and theologically with each of the divinities that accompanied the five planets known at the time in antiquity: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, plus Helios and Selene.
