[L ΤЄ] ΤΑ ΡΤΟΥ (date) around. Cronos bearded and draped standing facing, head veiled and crowned with disk turned to left, holding drapery and harpa on the left arm, crocodile on the right extended hand. RPC IV.4, 230 (this coin, no. 2, + ill.). Emmett 1599. Dattari 2686 (this coin). Nice light-brown tone. Very Fine. Ex Giovanni Dattari collection 2686, Il Cairo. Ex Auctiones AG 26, 16-19.09.1996, lot 415. Drachm of illustrious origin with the rare complete figure of Chronos on the reverse, a deity who presides over the timing of events, including the fertilizing floods of the Nile, here indicated by the crocodile held in the right hand and the harpoon held in the left. Already in the Dattari collection, it is bathed in a warm original brown patina regularly smeared on the coin.
