Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Nomos, c. 302-280 BC. Philokles, magistrate. Obv. Warrior on horseback left, holding shield; ΣΙ in right field, ΦΙΛΟΚΛΗΣ below. Rev. Phalanthos astride dolphin left, holding wreath in right hand and resting left on dolphin’s back; ΤΑΡΑΣ behind, ΛΥ below. HN Italy 965; Vlasto 688-89; SNG ANS 1063-1064. 7.85 g. 25.00 mm. Enchanting coin; perfectly centred on broad flan; lovely untouched old cabinet tone with a spectacular iridescence. EF.
