Diva Faustina I, wife of Antoninus Pius (died 141 AD). AE Sestertius, struck under Antoninus Pius, c. 141-146 AD. Obv. DIVA AVGVS-TA FAVSTINA. Veiled and draped bust right. Rev. PIETAS AVG SC. The Temple of Antoninus Pius and Faustina: hexastyle temple façade set on two-tiered base; ornate pediment decorated with figures; roof line surmounted by quadriga; figures with billowing veils at ends; S C in exergue. RIC III (A. Pius) 1148. AE. 30.58 g. 32.50 mm. R. Rare and superb example. Fascinating portrait and interesting architectural reppresentation. Dark patina, minor cleaning marks on obverse. EF/Good VF. The building depicted on the reverse of this important and rare sestertius is the temple that the Senate dedicated to Faustina in 141 A.D. in the Roman Forum. Its remains are now incorporated into the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda.
