Among the Most Beautiful Republican Denarii

L. Lucretius Trio. AR Denarius, 76 BC. Obv. Radiate head of Sol right. Rev. TRIO within crescent moon and seven stars; below, L. LVCRETI. Cr. 390/1; B. 2. 4.29 g. 19.50 mm. Sound metal and broad overweight flan. Insignificant X graffito on obverse. An outstanding example, brilliant with underlying luster and a hint of a golden iridescence. EF/Good EF. The 'compass dot' over the crescent moon, maybe intentionally not fully dissimulated by the engraver, seems a distant planet in the firmament.
