Sicily. Petra. AE Litra, c. 354-344 BC, overstruck on Syracusan bronze (Athena/Dolphins, dated c. 375-344 BC). Obv. [ΠETPINΩN]. Head of Zeus Eleutherios right. Rev. Aphrodite seated right, holding dove in her left hand and placing her right on seat. HGC 2 1097; CNS III 1. AE. 27.61 g. 29.50 mm. RR. Very rare and unusually attractive for issue. Dark green patina. Clearly visible undertype. VF. This large and somewhat clunky type is the only issue ever struck by Petra, a little known small settlement in northwestern Sicily.
