Matthew I of Lorraine, known as the Débonnaire, was Duke of Lorraine from 1139 to 1176. He married around 1138 Judith de Hohenstaufen (1123-1195), also called Bertha. This medal belongs to a series minted by Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain in Nancy, representing the Dukes and Duchesses of Lorraine.
