Italy. Gazoldo degli Ippoliti. Anonymous of Counts Francesco I, Mattia, Ercole, Camillo, Paolo and Massimiliano degli Ippoliti, 1591-1596. Double Parpagliola 1595, Geneva Type. (Billon, 19.00 mm, 1.31 g). GENEVA CIVITAS 1595. Shield with half eagle and key in pole surmounted by the double-headed eagle. Rev. POST TENEBRAS LUX G Bifurcated hollow cross. Cfr. CNI 34. Perini -. Gamberini IV, n. 12. Very Fine. Extremely Rare. Ex Erasmus Collection, Astarte 6 March 1999, lot 1395. There are two types of Geneva forgeries, although some texts confuse them. The first is this one, with legend GENEVA CIVITAS 1595 which corresponds to CNI 34 (specimen of poor conservation, C 3, incomplete and with illegible date). No other specimens are known to us. The second type, with legend GENVINA. CIVILIT.1596, corresponds to CNI 35 and the following two other specimens are known: Collezione Papadopoli, no. 3811, and Navarrini, La zecca di Gazoldo, reprod. N with illegible date. Gamberini, op. cit., correctly distinguishes the two types.
