Outstanding Constantius II


Constantius II (337-361). AV Solidus. Nicomedia mint, 3rd officina. Struck 340-351 AD. Obv. FL IVL CONSTAN-TIVS PERP AVG. Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. VICTORIA AVGVSTORVM. Victory hastening left, holding in right hand a wreath inscribed XXV; with her left hand she holds a trophy over the left shoulder, and a palm-branch. In front of her, a captive wearing a pointed cap raises both hands; in exergue, SMNT. RIC VIII 26; C. 237. 4.45 g. 21.00 mm. RRR. Very rare and superb example. Virtually as struck. Good EF.
