Excessively Rare Hemilitron
Sicily. Syracuse. Agathokles (317-289 BC). AE Hemiltron(?), c. 308-307 BC. Obv. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ. Diademed head of Herakles right. Rev. Lion walking right; club above,. HGC 2 -; CNS II -; SNG ANS 743. 3.45 g. 21.00 mm. RRR. Extremely rare. Same type of the Litra (CNS II 151), but of very reduced weight and flan, possibly an Hemilitron (the weight is compatible with an half Litra); we think it is not only an occasional example of very light Litra but an unpublished fraction of the same issue. Dark green, almost black patina. EF.
