Ex CNA IV 21 September 1988, lot 355. In the first tetrarchy (293-305 AD) Galerius, a brave general, was the Caesar of Diocletian, whose daughter Galeria Valeria he had married in second marriage. This exceptional tetradrachm of the third year (294-295 AD) is still to be considered the only known specimen and in excellent conditions of conservation, minting and well-centred with original patina. Lively the portrait of the leader Caesar on the obverse, and austere the laureate bust of Roman Zeus turned right on the reverse.
