Egypt. Alexandria. Elagabalus, 218-222. Tetradrachm (Bronze, 23.20 mm, 12.03 g) dated RY 2 (= 218-219) Α ΚΑΙϹΑΡ ΜΑ ΑΥΡ ΑΝΤωΝΙΝΟϹ ЄΥϹЄΒ Laureate head of Elagabalus right. Rev. Zeus standing facing bare chest, head turned to left, holding patera in the right hand, long scepter in the left hand and drapery on the same arm, eagle standing at his feet to left with closed wings, head turned right to him, LB (date) to right. The second part of the Severan dynasty comprising the family of Elagabalus 218-222 AD) and Alexander Severus (222-235 AD) is very abundant in Alexandrian coinages. On the reverse of this tetradrachm of the second year of reign of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus III Elagabalus (218-219 AD) is portrayed a standing Capitoline Roman Zeus with sceptre, patera and eagle, possibly referring to the arrival in Rome from the East of the young emperor.
