This, like other tetradrachms, is dedicated to the dynastic propaganda curated by Antoninus Pius through the recurrent presentation on the reverse of the coins, of the portrait of the young Caesar, Marcus Aurelius, together with his own. It should be noted that Lucius Verus, although adopted by Antoninus Pius, did not receive the same treatment on the sovereign's coins as Marcus Aurelius.
