Egypt. Alexandria. Hadrian, 117-138. Tetradrachm (Bronze, 24.41 mm, 13.55 g) dated RY 12 (= 127-128) ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΙ ΑΔΡΙΑ ϹЄΒ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian right. Rev. Ptah/Ephaestus standing facing, wearing himation, head turned to right wearing fitted cap with pellet above, holding long scepter in the right hand, drapery and tongs on the left arm. The reverse of this tetradrachm presents the greek-ellenistic deity Ptah-Efesto (Volcan) that recalls in parallel that Egyptian-pharaonic mummiform Ptah-Sokar-Osiris depicted on Hadrian tetradrachm issued on the same year 12 of reign of the ruler (cf. Emmett 883 and Staffieri, Alexandria in Nummis, pp. 123-124). Both deities are related to funeral worship.
