Egypt. Alexandria. Traianus, 98-117. Emidrachm (Bronze, 27.71 mm, 14.78 g). Dated RY 15 (= 111/2). AY[T T]PAIAN CЄB ΓЄPM ΔAKIK Laureate head right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. Trajan, holding eagle-tipped scepter in his left hand and branch in his right, driving quadriga to right; L IE in upper field. Dattari-Savio 753. RPC III, 4639.1/6 this specimen. Emmett 459. Geissen 586. Attractive brown reddish patina, somewhat rough. Good Very Fine. Ex Numismatica Aretusa SA (Franco Chiesa), June 1981. Alexandrine haemidarchm coinages are rather scarce and our well-centred specimen is notable for its beautiful original dark red “desert “patina. On the reverse is the triumph of Trajan at the head of a quadriga.
