C. Coelius Caldus. AR Denarius, 51 BC. Obv. C. COEL. CALDVS. Bare head of C. Coelius Caldus right; in left field, standard inscribed HIS; in right field, standard in the form of a boar; below, [COS[. Rev. Tablet inscribed L. CALDVS/VII VIR. EPVL, behind which figure preparing epulum; on either side of table, a trophy. On outer left field, [IMP.A.X]; on outer right, C. CALDVS. In exergue, CALDVS (ALD ligate) III VIR. Cr. 437/2b; B. 9. AR. 3.96 g. 18.00 mm. R. Rare. Sound metal and full weight. A sharply struck and superb example with a lovely portrait, brilliant and lightly toned. Banker's mark on obverse and reverse a bit off centre, otherwise. EF.
