Small Head and Full Crest
Continental Greece. Attica, Athens. AR Tetradrachm, c. 454-404 BC. Obv. Head of Athena right, wearing earring, necklace, and crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves over visor and a spiral palmette on the bowl. Rev. AΘE. Owl standing right, head facing, closed tail feathers; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. HGC 4 1597; SNG Cop. 32. 17.19 g. 25.50 mm. A wonderful compact portrait in fine style, showing full crest. Delicate patina, some dark spots on reverse, undelying luster. EF.
