Head of Athena in three-quarters view left, wearing winged Phrygian helmet; KΛEYΔΩΡOY inscribed across helmet bowl. Rev. Lion left, tearing prey; above, Λ; below monogram; in exergue, ΥΕΛΕΤΩΝ. HN Italy 1295; SNG ANS 1333-4; HGC 1 1315; Williams 335 (O175/R243+). AR. 7.46 g. 22 mm. R. Rare. An exceptional example of Velia’s coinage, attributed to the engraver Kleudoros. His artistry is beautifully showcased in the refined three-quarter facing portrait of Athena, capturing both elegance and depth. VF.
