MONETA DA OTTO SOLDI Stemma coronato dalle quattro aquile caricato al petto dallo scudetto coronato di casa d’Austria; il tutto sormontato da piccolo monte Olimpo e FIDES e circondato da collare dell’ordine del Toson d’Oro. Lot # 428 - Imperatore Francesco I e Imperatrice Maria Theresa d'Asburgo, 1717-1780. Medaglia 1756 per il restauro del Ponte dei Mulini a Mantova. (Bronzo, 47.39 mm, 39.13 g). *IMP. AVG. H. B. REG. MANT. DVX* FRANC. I. ROM. IMP* AVG. MAR. THER. ROM Busti laureati e paludati della coppia reale, accollati a sinistra. Francesco indossa il Collare del Toson d'Oro. Rev. *AD* ANNONÆ. PERPETVVM. VSUM *ANN* MDCCLVI* OPVS. MANTVE. EXPLETVM. Edificio lungo ad archi su tre piani; in cielo una nuvola; in esergo: AVSTRIACÆ MVNIFIC D O N V M. Cfr. Medaglia, anno 13, numero 20, 1985, Milano, Ed. S. Johnson, n. 32. Splendida. Il Ponte dei Mulini venne utilizzato come magazzino delle granaglie con dodici mulini per la macinazione del grano, usufruendo della leggera pendenza che unisce il lago Superiore con il lago di Mezzo; ad ogni mulino fu dato il nome di uno dei dodici Apostoli. Questa medaglia deve essere stata coniata in numero limitato data la tecnica di coniazione usata e l'applicazione delle singole lettere col punzone. Nel 1760 furono coniati 200 esemplari in argento e 800 in "metallo simile" Cfr. Medaglia anno 13, n. 20.

Napoleone dopo le battaglie di Castiglione e Peschiera fa evacuare le sue truppe dal Veneto per portarle verso Mantova, considerata una delle più importanti piazzeforti d’Europa. Le truppe del generale corso premono su Mantova e dopo sanguinosi combattimenti, il Consiglio di guerra e il comandante Wurmser, acconsentono alla capitolazione della città virgiliana. (Cfr. E. Marchesi achieved extraordinary fame throughout Europe thanks to her talent and the female voice derived from emasculation. He made his opera debut in 1774 in Rome, playing a female role. In 1782, he became a musician for Victor Amadeus III, King of Sardinia, with a salary of 1500 lire. He performed in the main Italian theatres as well as in St Petersburg, Vienna and London, where he reached the height of his fame, being proclaimed the greatest singer of his time. In 1796 Marchesi refused to sing for Napoleon when the latter entered Milan.
