France. Pierre Jeannin, c. 1540-1622, firstly president of the parliament in Dijon in 1581, became adviser to the king of France and superintendent of finance. Mazerolle II, 683 var. (signed). Kress 106, 564 var. (signed). Hole. Extremely Fine late cast. Pierre Jeannin was born in Autun around 1540 and died in Paris in 1622 or 1623. He was a lawyer and in 1579 he became President of the Burgundian Parliament and soon after an influential advisor to King Henry IV leading many diplomatic missions. Being a member of the Council of State, he had an important role in the politics of that time and from 1607 to 1609 he was ambassador to the United Provinces. After the murder of the King , Henry IV in 1610, Jeanin was responsible of the finances for Maria de’ Medici and her son, King Louis XIII, until his dismissal in 1616.
