Here we have the first of two tetradrachms by Commodus (189-190 AD) of the same type but of different coinage and style. This is of wide size, well centred and with a pleasant portrait of the emperor. On the meaning of Elpis = Peace on the reverse, see the commentary on the next coin no. 187 in the collection.
