Mn. Fonteius C.f. AR Denarius, 85 BC. Obv. Laureate head of Apollo right; below, thunderbolt; behind, MN·FONTEI·C·F (MN and NT ligate); before, AP (in monogram). Rev. Cupid seated on goat right; above, pilei; in exergue, thyrsus; around, laurel-wreath. Cr. 353/1a; B. (Fonteia) 9; RRSC D148.1a. 3.75 g. 20 mm. Well centred and nicely toned. Rough surfaces. Good VF. The AP monogram should be ragarded as standing for Ap(ollo); it can hardly stand for Argento Publico (usually appears as A·P) and bears no resemblance to the monogram RA, which does stand for R(om)a.
