Fourth L series. AE Quadrans, from 211 BC. Obv. Head of Hercules right, wearing lion's skin headdress; behind, three pellets. Rev. Prow of galley right; above, ROMA; below, three pellets. Cr. 97/19. AE. 8.22 g. 22.00 mm. RR. Very rare and superb. Lovely green patina. EF. Intriguing example, clearly belonging to the Luceria mint, but without the L (of which a slight trace can be seen) before prow.

The dating of this coin has been suggested by Roberto Lippi, based on a new soon to be published study.
