Rare Pseudo-Imperial Tremissis


Lombardic Kingdom of Italy (?). AV Tremissis. Pseudo-imperial coinage in the name of Justinian I, uncertain mint, c. 568-590 AD. Obv. DN IYVSTI I I-ANVS PP A [ ] Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right. Heavy annular border. Rev. VICTORIA AVCVSTOIIVM. Victory advancing right, head left, holding wreath and cross; star to right; in exergue, CONO. Cf. MEC 1, 294; Ranieri -; Arslan 1; cf. Arslan Cividale, p. 167, IV.12-13. 1.49 g. 18 mm. RR. Very rare, choice and brilliant. Good VF.
