The Triumvirs. Octavian. AR Denarius, late 41 BC. Military mint moving with Octavian in Italy. Obv. [C CAESAR III] VIR R P C. Bare head right. Rev. Equestrian statue of Octavian galloping left, his right hand extended; in exergue and on right, [P]OPVL IVSSV. Cr. 518/2; B. (Julia) 97; C. 227. AR. 3.98 g. 17.00 mm. RR. Very rare. Sound metal and full weight. A choice example, in excellent condition for issue, brilliant and lightly toned. Good VF/About EF. On reverse, probably one of the statues erected at Rome on his return from the war with Brutus and Cassius in BC 43.
