Sicily. Syracuse. AR/AV Fourreè 20 Litrai or Trihemiobol, c. 405-400 BC. Obv. ΣYPA. Head of young Herakles left, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square; Σ-Y-P-A in quarters; small female head left in deeper incuse circle in centre (Arethousa?). HGC 2 1289; SNG ANS 350; Rizzo pl. 48, 7. AR/AV. 0.65 g. 11 mm. RR. Contemporary forgery, of the highest interest. This coin still preserves traces of gilt covering the silver alloy core. Good VF.
