Unfinished Reverse Die


AL series. AR Denarius, uncertain Spanish mint (Tarraco?), 208 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; behind, X. Rev. The Dioscuri galloping right; below, four dots (dot at the right barely visible); in linear frame, ROMA. Cr. 111/1; B. 1 (Aelia); cf. NAC Auction 61 (2011), lot 499 (same dies). 3.34 g. 18.50 mm. RR. Very rare. Bright and nicely toned, with iridescent hues. The fifth specimen known with a reverse die with four dots below horses (an unfinished die of RRC 111/1). About VF.
