Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. Sestertius (Bronze, 30.86 mm, 29.12 g). Rome, 168-169. M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXIII Laureate bust right, with slight drapery. Rev. SALVS AVG COS III Salus standing left, holding sceptre and feeding serpent rising from altar to left; S - C across fields. RIC -. Cohen -. BMCRE -. Apparently an unpublished variant. Tooled and smoothed, retouched green patina. Almost Very Fine. Very Rare reverse variant, no examples found at auctions over the last three decades. The most similar type of reverse is clearly SALVTI AVG COS III, depicting the Salus with the same characteristics (cf. RIC III, 979. Cohen III, 547. BMC 1376).gr. 29,12
