This obol, which Saulcy long ago assigned to Gautier de Brienne, Guy II's successor, has been found in the Eleusis Hoard (1311), thus tending to substantiate the attribution. The legend refers to the title of Dux 'Actenarum' and 'Thebarum Cives' with the cross and the letter G as types.The use of this form of Latin legend represents an innovation in the coinage of the duchy, perhaps caused by the government of the duchy having changed hands. Of course, it might be possible that this coin belongs to Guy II, for, as far as anyone knows, no deniers tournois were issued in Gautier's name.
