Antiquities 460 RARE GANDHARA FEMALE STUCCO FIGURE
Ca.400 AD. A massive stucco bust of a female figure, modelled in the traditional Greco-Buddhist tradition with a full face, fine almond eyes, a naturalistic nose, sensitive mouth, and a large, ornate headdress, similar to a turban, atop the head and chest adorn with jewellery. Alexander the Great conquered Gandhara in 330 BCE and the reign of Indo-Greek kings who followed him introduced classical traditions that would influence Gandhara art for the following seven centuries.
