GREEK GNATHIAN POTTERY MUG
Ca. 300 BC. A beautiful cup, with a small strap handle coming off the shoulder and rolling forward onto the lower rim. The rim flares outward at the top; the round foot has a series of rolled steps that indicate the incredible attention to detail on this cup. Red bands outline the junction of foot and body and rim and body; painted yellow and white curving and spiralling designs also provide nice detail. Paint has flowed down into the interior of the cup but the unpainted clay surface is still visible lower down inside of it. Good Condition; intact; H:110mm/L:95mm;4.33/3.74in; 170gr; Provenance: Private London collection, formed in the 1990s on the UK and European art market.
