Gioacchino Napoleone Murat, 1767- 1815, King of Naples. Plaquette 1808. (Copper, 44.31 mm, 5.96 g). JOACHIM NAPOLEON ROI DE NAPLES ET DE SICILE Bust in high uniform on the left with high lapel, cloak, thin embroidered tie and honors on chest and shoulder. Circular laurel decoration at the border. In 1808 Gioacchino Murat was appointed king of Naples by Napoleon and already known as "Gioacchino Napoleone", thanks to his good looks, sanguine character and physical courage he was appreciated by the Neapolitans. During his short reign, Murat founded and initiated major public works.This plaquette and one very similar to this, representing Carolina Bonaparte, wife of Gioacchino Murat were commissioned in honor of their nomination as regal couple governing Naples and Sicilie.
